Welcome to Saurabh Garg's Wiki.

I will compile my knowledge, information, data and ideas on this wiki and I invite people across the World Wide Web to share their thoughts and opinions.

I want to create businesses in Media, Entertainment and Internet. I am also interested in businesses in customer/consumer space (could be retail, experience, lifestyle). Inclination to these businesses is an outcome of a void between the kind of services that can be made available and the ones present in the market. These businesses would have their foundations in commonsense and insights on Indian Customers.

I will talk about Capital Allocation, Value Investing, Businesses, Communications, Design, Marketing, Branding, People Watching, Trend Watching, Cool Hunting ... a long list that I will keep editing.

My hobbies include Travel, Photography, Blogging, Reading, Writing, History (especially Indian independence struggle) and Gaming. If I could travel in time, I would love to go back and see how they lived their lives when they did not have TV, Internet and Telephones. I am also interested in lost civilizations of Indus Valley (Harrapa), Mohenjo-Daro, Machu Picchu, Mesopotamia and would love to know more about the ones I dont know yet.

I like reading about controlled environments (Casinos, Govt. Institutions, Data Centers, Dams etc.). What amazes me the fact that less than 1% of people working at these institutions control the actions and thoughts of rest of 99% people. And their activities are watertight more often than not.

I am interested in decision making, evolution, anthropology, human computer interaction, visual thinking, decision trees, algorithms, puzzles, quizzing etc.

Why a wiki?

Every initiative starts with a problem statement. I want to collect all my thoughts at one place, make them accessible 24X7, put them in context and make them searchable and linkable. I currently do this on notepads (I have some 12 notepads full of ideas now), my numerous blogs and email conversations. All these give me convenience but are very difficult to contextualize and search. The only free and fast solution I can think of is a dedicated page for every subject. All these pages (subjects) should be searchable and I should be able to create links and context pages for all the data. A wiki seemed to solve all my problems and hence this page.

I will run this as an experiment for sometime and see how this goes. Depending on the results, I might continue with this or choose to break. If you can think of a solution, please contact me or leave a comment.

How is it different from a blog?

First the way it is written and second the intended audience.

A blog is a chronological log of thoughts and events. It is intended for a large reader base and it can have variety of purposes (including but not limited to advertising, getting prospective clients, an online CV, just a plain personal dairy).

This wiki is not chronological (although I intend to use timestamps). This is more of an essay approach to collecting thoughts. Every single topic will have a single page that would be updated on an ongoing basis. Second the intended readership is limited only to myself. I intend to collect things and ideas that I might use in future. I want to contextualize them so that its easier for me to make links, discover new relationships and may be comeup with more ideas. After all it is the IdeaEconomy that we live in. Second, I am not writing this to please the literary critics. I am for a change writing for myself.

One of the advantages of www is searchability and thus I am keeping this open to public. People can stumble upon to my website and will probably end up here. I want to engage those people in conversation and pick their brains. And I sincerely hope that they leave me with some food for thought.

Thanks to pbWiki for this wonderful software. However a free usage limits storage to 10 MBs. Wondering what should I do now .. ?
